Hello, my name is Nick Gendler

I’ve been helping people with their career decision making since 1997.

For the first five years of that time I was an executive recruitment consultant. I learned all about how and when people make certain career choices, or, more accurately, how and when they make wrong career choices. I also learned what makes a good CV, and a good interview candidate.

But, to be honest, I wasn’t very good at recruitment. I didn’t have that pushiness that is needed to get the placements when I knew that placement may not be the best thing for the candidate, so it was no surprise that when the economy went through a bad period just after 9/11 I was made redundant.

This turned out to be a good thing for me. I took a step back and asked myself some serious questions about where I wanted my career to go. I realised that what I was best at was helping people to think through their own decision making, and advising them, where appropriate, on the best course of action.

Within a few weeks of losing my job as a recruiter I was working as an outplacement consultant and had set up Workjoy to support private individuals who were stuck in their careers or were struggling to win at interviews.

That was in early 2002 and Workjoy continues to support individuals in a very personal and individual way today.
